My dog Kenai loves treats. It could be flavored with meats, cheese, fruits, or vegetables and Kenai will enjoy it. Of the two of us, I’m the picky one. I like to make sure that Kenai’s treats are healthy AND sustainable.
We are often used to thinking about our own carbon footprints, but our pets have carbon pawprints of their own. The footprint of owning a dog can range from 770 – 2,200 kilograms of CO2 a year, depending on the dog size. The pet food industry emits 106 million tons of carbon a year. Who knew Lassie has such a huge impact on the environment?
Finding Sustainable Pet Products
There are some ways to make pet-owning more sustainable. Purchasing chicken or salmon kibble instead of beef, which creates fewer carbon emissions when farmed. Buying products in bulk to reduce waste. And, picking organic treats for your dog!
Organic farmed plants are exponentially more sustainable than meats and fillers. So, when looking for a sustainable dog treat brand, I turn to Dog Mamma’s!
All About Dog Mamma’s
Dog Mamma’s treats are plant based, baked in small batches and USDA certified organic. When owner and founder Kathryn Durno started showing her dogs, she noticed how much processed junk was in conventional dog treats. Instead of artificial ingredients, preservatives, and chemicals, she creates dog treats with real food and real nutrition.
These tasty treats are great for the planet and great for your dog! Using these treats with Kenai gives me peace of mind knowing that the treats are healthy and nourishing. Plus, it helps me lower Kenai’s carbon pawprint.
Four Yummy Flavor Choices!
Dog Mamma’s offers four delicious treat flavors, each with unique health benefits for your dog! The recipe of each treat also includes chia seeds (great source of omega-3 fatty acids) and coconut oil (anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial). Kenai loves all flavors of Dog Mamma’s, but here is some key information about each kind to help pick the best variety for your pup.
Berry Banana Coco Chunk
Kenai loves bananas and blueberries on their own. He often drools over my banana snacks and practices catching with blueberries. Both are super healthy for dogs, and blueberries are very high in antioxidants which a great for your pup’s health!
This is a new flavor for Kenai, but he’s always begging for more! Kale is loaded with vitamins A, K and C, which supports immune system function. Butternut squash is naturally sweet, and helps hydrate your dog’s skin.
Pumpkin is a powerhouse vegetable for dogs. It helps regulate their digestive tract, and I use pumpkin anytime Kenai has an upset tummy. Packed with Vitamin A, pumpkin treats can aid in brain development.
Peanut Butter Banana
Ahhh the classic. The great thing about these treats is they come in mini size, so they are great for small dogs or training treats! Peanut butter banana is a great high reward combo for pups, and a great source of protein. I love using these training treats to coax Kenai into trying new tricks!
